Choosing the best Headshots in LA

I hope everyone had a great weekend and is now looking forward to a brand new week, I know I am.
So, recently if you have been reading my blog posts, you would know that I have been writing a lot about my dating adventures here in LA, but I think I am going to try and steer away from that subject for a bit as I'm not sure that some of my dates are too happy to be reading about it. Today I am going to give a review on my recent headshots.
Since moving to LA I have notice a significant difference between headshots in the United States and headshots in England. In the UK they usually consider the simpler headshots better because it allows actors to have a greater variety and play different roles. Although colour photographs are becoming increasingly popular in England, the classic black and white dramatic shot is still often the safer option. Headshots in LA are quite the opposite of this.
When I arrived here, I showed my current headshots that were taken in the UK to three different casting directors and all three of them told me honestly that my headshots would not get very far in LA because there is no way that they could tell my 'type' and that they were far too general for the industry. Casting directors receive thousands and thousands of resumes and headshots and they don't want to sit there all day thinking could this person look the part, they would much rather see it in front of them to save them time, which does actually make sense. I decided that I wanted to get some LA style headshots, the only issue I had is I wanted to be able to use them in the UK as well so I wanted to pick a photographer was able to give me the best of the both worlds.
I spent ages searching through every photographer on Google, reading reviews and looking through celebrity headshots. I wasn't aware of how expensive they were here compared to England but I knew that if I was going to get some done I may as well spend a little bit more and get some decent ones, rather than wasting my money on a cheap photographer that doesn't really know what they are doing. I wanted two different looks, one commercial and one dramatic, to show the contrast between the roles that I am able to play. I look fairly young and often get cast for high school and college roles, but I also wanted to show my more grown up side too.
After reading reviews and checking out photos I finally found photographer Anthony Mongiello. I was really impressed with the quality of the shots and the fact that his prices were quite affordable was a bonus.
I booked my appointment online, which was very easy to use and then paid a deposit. I turned up on Saturday ready to shoot with a variety of outfits. Anthony was extremely friendly and before we even started shooting he helped me pick out my two looks based on my character types and what would look good with my complexion. I was very grateful for this otherwise as I had no idea what would be best. He really understood that I was looking to also use them in the UK and he assisted in choosing clothing pieces that could work for both. I felt relieved that he knew what he was talking about and I felt he actually really cared about what he was doing.
We went outside to shoot and at first I was a little worried because sometimes I feel outside shots can be too bright and make you look flat but Anthony picked the perfect places that gave great lighting and tone to my face. I wasn't really sure what sort of poses to do as in the UK it usually very standard and doesn't give too much away, but Anthony seemed to really understand the industry and guided me extremely well to get the best quality out of the photos. We tried out a variety of different poses and he gave me great direction and make me feel so comfortable through the whole process. At the end of the shoot he made sure I was happy with all the photos before I left and I was sent a link to all the photos so that I could download them and then pick any that I wanted cropped or retouched.
I was thrilled with how all the photos came out. I would definitely recommend him to anyone looked to get some fresh headshots.
