The Choice Premiere and Review

Hey guys,

I hope that you all had a good weekend and enjoying the rest of your week.

So, on Monday night I went to the premiere and after party for the new movie The Choice directed by Ross Katz. The red carpet event took place at the Arclight Cinema on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood.

It was a bit of a last minute invite so after rushing around like a headless chicken trying to get ready, I ended up ripping my dress. I was already running slightly behind, so this just added to my crazy rush. The red carpet was at six thirty just before the movie was due to start at seven thirty and I did not want to be late. After finally giving up on the broken zip and changing my dress completely, it was ten minutes past six and now I began to really panic that I was going to be late. After my uber cancelling on me twice I was finally on my way, the only issue was that I hadn't really given any thought to the fact that there would probably be traffic at this time in rush hour and a journey that usually only takes ten minutes would probably take triple the amount of time. As my luck goes my uber ended up being stuck in the traffic for so long and I ended up being twenty minutes late, which just added to the stress, plus I felt extremely bad for the person who invited me as he had to wait for me for ages. As I was so late he had to go onto the red carpet without me and when I did eventually get there I couldn't actually find the entrance. I'm probably not the smartest person or as my dad would say the 'the brightest crayon in the box' and walking in a little black dress and brand new Christian Louboutins that I hadn't yet broken in, I was scrabbling around oblivious that the red carpet was actually right in front of me. I decided to try and call him, but me being me I didn't think about the fact that if he doesn't answer the first time, he's probably busy and continued to call him another three times before he answered. The thing I didn't realize was that he was actually in the middle of an interview on the carpet at the time when his phone was ringing very loudly, with a lets say a less 'conventional' ring tone. I probably wasn't the best date he's ever had. After that little dilemma I finally managed to find him and we went inside to find our seats.

I didn't really know too much about the movie other then it was a Nicholas Sparks story, who had also written The Notebook and Safe Haven. Because of this I knew straight away that The Choice would be a passionate and intensely romantic movie.

The Lionsgate movie was originally adapted from Sparks novel and without giving too much away it follows a love story between the two central characters, ladies man and country boy Travis played by Benjamin Walker and rich medical student Gabby Holland played by Teresa Palmer. In the movie Gabby who is in a long term relationship with boyfriend Ryan played by Tom Welling moves in next door to Travis. There is an instant attraction between the two and although Gabby is in a relationship she begins to fall for Travis. They are two people who are destined to be together, however, their journey takes a lot of bumps along the way. The storyline then takes a complete shift and begins to follow a complete new path, where love is almost taken away from the couple in a disastrous way. The story really portrays the idea of passion and genuine love and shows how this can be the strongest power in life. It also brings out the theme of never giving up and believing in each other and I feel that this was a very strong concept of the movie.

I had never seen Benjamin walker in anything before this movie, so I didn't really have anything to compare him to, which I think was a good thing because I instantly felt his presence when he came onto the screen. He wasn't classically good looking, well to me anyway but there was something about him that made me want to watch him. The chemistry between Gabby and Travis was so powerful that it began to make me think about my own life, which I very rarely do when I watch a movie. I couldn't take my eyes off the pair and not just because of the fact that they were right there in front of me on a huge theater screen but because I could feel the authenticity of the characters. As an actor myself I am always so invested in the actors in front of me and it was beautiful to watch the chemistry between them. They brought a life to the characters and I trusted the reality of their scenes fully.

As for the storyline of the movie it was definitely intense and I felt myself going through so many different emotions that by the time the movie was over I was so tired that I'd felt as if I'd been on a rollercoaster or something. I personally love the real life fairytale like many women I'm sure but, I do often feel like they are a little unrealistic at times and these ideas are just how we wish love was or hope love is, but nonetheless I thought it was a fantastic film. If you're someone that likes a good romance I would definitely recommend watching this movie. You will laugh, you will smile and you will definitely cry, so be warned.
