11 Things to remember before dating a British Girl

Hello my lovely readers, 

So, the other day I was with my best friend and her fiancé and we were talking about the difference between dating in Los Angeles and dating in Britain. Whilst spending the last year in LA I had a bit of a whirlwind in the dating department and realised that many of my dates were misconceived by what dating a British girl means. Now really it shouldn't make a difference where you're from right? but, from my experiences and from many of my British friends, there definitely seems to be different rules and ideas on what it means to date a Brit. 

Here I've written a little fun blog on 11 tips to consider before you go out into the big wide world and date a British woman. Enjoy :)

1. Don't make fun/mimic her accent. As I've learnt from dating in LA, it's not fun when your date spends the whole night mimicking your accent because 'it sounds funny and posh'. Please stop, we've heard it all before, its not original. 

2. Don't ask why she is doing a FAKE British accent. This one kind of links in with the first one, but is an even bigger DONT. Ok, so this has happened to many of my friends. We don't get what is so great about our accent so trust us there is no way we would be that sad to pretend that we have British accents. 

3. Number three is the most IMPORTANT , so listen up. Don't assume that because we are 'British' that we are easy or up for anything. I've heard so many guys talking about how brits and europeans are 'adventurous' and 'up to do anything' and I'm really not sure where this idea started from, we are not prudey as a country but either way it's not true and a bit offensive. I went on a date once where the guy asked me if all British people are good kissers. That compliment soon turned sour.

4. Don't bring up Donald Trump or even worse our opinions on BREXIT. Yes we agree with you, Trump is almost a bigger tool than Boris Johnston, but really it's the last thing that we want to discus on date and asking us about the BREXIT vote will definately put a buzzkill on the date. Yes I know its been a bit of a hot topic at the moment, but if you are somewhat interesting, I'm sure you can think of something to talk about, anything?Maybe talking cat videos? Anything is better than the bad times of our countries. 

5. Don't expect that we are all obsessed and personally know the queen. Yes I've lived in england all my life and I respect the queen and like her a normal amount, but no I don't go to her palace for tea every weekend and I don't know what her favourite color is either. Sorry to burst your bubble boys. 

6. We are NOT fetishes. We are normal people, we may not be from the same country but we are from the same planet. We like romantic dates, going to the movies, shopping, all the normal stuff people like. Other than having a different accent, we are the same as every other girl. We are not interested in fulfilling your fantasy of a British girl. 

7. Do remember we most probably will be able to drink more than you. Remember we have been drinking legally since 18, meaning we have actually been drinking since we were 15. We got over that stage of crazy drinking and partying before you guys graduated high school so we have a few more years on you. Most of us Brits can handle our drink far more more (I say most, lightly). 

8. Don't be offended by our sense of humour aka sarcasm. Ok so British humor is a little different to American humour trust me you want to take note, I've learnt this the hard way. American humor is a lot more obvious (toilet humor, banter, direct humiliation) all funny. But our humor is a lot more dry and subtle. For example, it took my roommates in LA almost 5 months of living with me to realize that most of what I said were sarcasm and I wasn't trying to be a bitch. Just keep this in mind incase we offend you in any way, we probably will. 

9. Don't expect that our lives revolve around a British Cuppa. Yes most of us to enjoy a good cuppa, but our life doesn't revolve around it. You don't need to take us to a tea shop on the first date in order to show us that you respect our British culture (I say this because it's actually happened to me), a drink at a bar will do nicely, though the first thing we will do when we get home is make a nice cuppa to end the night. It's also good for a night cap. 

10. Do buy us beer. Don't think that because we are British we drink everything with our little pinkies up in the air and will only drink expensive wine or champagne. Many of us ladies in Britain do enjoy a good pint. We actually have a lot of beer gardens in the summer and we don't care if it's not very ladylike we will drink it. 

11. Do be upfront. So, maybe this one is just me but dating in general is very confusing, all these little code words for things, such as, 'Netflix and Chill' and 'lets hang out'. It leaves you constantly analysing what the other person is really thinking and usually results in one of you completely wasting your time. In Britain or at least where I am from if a guy asks you out for a drink it is often a 'date', unless its a friend. This hangout term is the most confusing because every time I hear it, it means something different, so just use normal language please. Us Brits don't get offended that easily.
