The End of My First Year at AADA

Hey guys, 

I am currently sitting on the plane at Bob Hope Airport in Burbank waiting to go to San Francisco to see my family, whilst I write this last blog of the year about the American Academy of Dramatics Arts. Thursday was officially my last day at The Academy. We had been working for the past three weeks on two exam plays that we would perform at the end of the term. I was lucky enough to have two of the most amazing casts and two of the best directors. The thing that made the experience so worth while was that both directors had very different styles of directing, one which was more research based and the other was physically based and all about jumping straight into it. I loved learning about different ways of working and how as an actor you need to be able to adapt to these changes. The whole experience showed me how far I have come as an actor since I first started and enabled me to evaluate myself, so I know which areas I need to improve. I am so sad for my first year to be over, I have met some amazingly talented actors and am so proud to call most of them my friends. 

Since coming to LA my life has been a bit of a soap opera with my dating adventures, acting and work life and friend dramas, but I would not change it for anything in the world. This has made my time in LA unique to me and I have learnt so much about myself and about life in general. Before coming here, I lived in a bit of bubble and now I have rediscovered myself and have stopped myself from being afraid to try new things and shutting out the negativity of others and to try and focus on the positive aspects of lief. I've realised that it's ok to fail and as long as you believe in your dreams and in yourself, you can achieve anything you want to and that's just what I'm going to do. It is strange to see how much a person can change in such a short time, but it shows me how much I have grown as a person and has given me the confidence to be myself and work on my goals in life. I will never forget this experience and what it meant to me. 

Now that I am finished I am off to spend some time with my family before heading back to LA for my final month of exploring, networking and working on grad plays for The academy second years.

I have now been living in Los Angeles for eight months and there is still so much that I find a mystery about the States.  I love living in the States, but I there is a lot that will never quite understand. PSYCHIC- IS IT ALL A LOAD OF HOCUS POCUS?

So.. this week has been an interesting week. For some reason since returning from the lovely USA  everything has seemed to go wrong. First the stupid hotel in Los Angeles messed up our payment and ended up charging me twice, then my phone decides to break at the exact same time and then I worked on the worst promo shift possible and for the first time I actually ended up walking out.  I think god was trying to tell me I should have stayed in LA. I also couldn't stop thinking about how I'm going to raise the funds for next year. Knowing that I got into the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and actually being able to see it in real life for the first time was amazing, but after returning home all I could seem to think was 'What if I can't raise the funds?' TOP TEN TIPS ON RECORDING MONOLOGUES

Hello my lovelies,  So today I'm going to my top ten little on recording monologues. Whether it's for your showreel, video audition or just to upload to You Tube there's a few things you should and shouldn't do.  When I first found out I would be doing a video audition for The American Academy of Dramatic Arts as I was unable to attend the London auditions because I was teaching drama in India, I wasn't quite sure how to go about it. Although auditioning via video means you can keep changing it until your happy, it also means you have to put in extra effort as you will be competing with face to face auditions.  As I hadn't  done much screen work or any recording in a while, I decided that it would be a good idea to get in contact with an acting coach. After searching for a while I found this fantastic coach Claire Storey . Claire really encouraged me and gave me some great advice for filming monologues.
