Second Week in Cali

Hey Guys,

So I’ve now been in California for over two weeks and so far I’ve loved every minute of my time here. My first week was spent in Marin County where I went to Napa for wine tasting and had some lovely quality time with my aunt. This week, however, has been a little different, but just as exciting as the first.

For my second week in Cali I went to stay with my cousins in Concord and Pleasant Hill, whilst my aunt was in Orange County. This is about an hour away from Marin and has a little more to do. The first few days I was here I didn’t quite feel comfortable, as everything seemed a little alien to me. Even going to the grocery store to buy dinner seemed to be a bit of a stress. I decided after a week of takeaways it was time for me to do a bit of cooking. I headed on my thirty-minute walk to Safeway to pick up the ingredients. After about twenty minutes of searching I finally found most of what I needed except from a bottle of soy sauce. I couldn’t be bothered anymore to search every aisle so I though it would probably be a lot faster if I just asked. After spending ten minutes trying to explain what soy sauce was to the very confused shop assistant, I gave up and went home. It was only after an hour that I realised it wasn’t my accent that she didn’t understand, it was actually the fact that I was saying ‘soya sauce’ and that was something they didn’t stock. After getting back to my cousins, I open the cupboard and guess what was staring me right in the face, yes you got it, a whole unopened bottle of soy sauce…Typical.

Other than this little dilemma with the soy sauce the rest of the week was pretty good. My cousin’s husband took me to the DMV to apply for my Californian ID, as I was a bit worried about taking my passport everywhere I go. After a very long wait and two extremely rude assistants that sent me away twice to bring in different forms, I finally had my photo taken and my application processed. I cannot wait to get it and show it off.

I have also always wanted a foot tattoo, which I had promised myself I would get in LA, but I after looking into different tattoo parlours I couldn’t wait any longer and ended up getting it over the weekend at Zebra Tattoo and Piercing in Berkeley. I had been waiting to get a tattoo that represented my journey to LA and something that I could look back on and remember the amazing memories I made living my dream in the States. I searched through tattoo ideas for ages, trying to find the perfect one that would have a meaning to me, but not too obvious to others. I finally came across an image of a bird that was in its five stages of flight and as soon as I saw it, I knew that this was the one I wanted. For me this tattoo signifies me as an actor and a grown up finally flying away and doing something for myself. The bird is not flying in a straight line because it symbolizes the bumpy ride that I has encountered on my journey, but it’s totally worth it in the end. I will never stop flying. I know it sounds a little cheesy, but hey, a bit of cheese never hurt anyone.

This is now my last two days until I finally move to Los Angeles, so tonight we are having all the family round, including my new gorgeous baby cousin for dinner and a sleepover. I cannot wait to fly to LA on Saturday and continue thins new and amazing journey.
