Christmas Adventures in Los Angeles & San Francisco
Hello my lovely readers,
I can't believe I have been in Los Angeles for nearly six months already. After a long twelve weeks of classes and two weeks of rehearsals for our exams play, the first semester is finally up. The last six months in Los Angeles have been a roller coaster, but have been the best months of my life. In just one semester at The Academy I have learnt so much and allowed myself to grow in confidence and as an actor. I have made the best of friends and had so much fun experiencing the nightlife and going on many adventures around LA. I've also had an amazing time reconnecting with a good friend of mine from England who also happened to be studying in Los Angeles at the time and I definitely feel this has given me a feeling of being at home.
The day after my exam play I was so excited to go and pick up mum from the airport who had come all the way from London to spend winter break with me. We went to stay in the Avalon Hotel in Beverly Hills for four days before heading to San Francisco to spend Christmas and new year with my whole family. Whilst in LA I treated my mum to Breakfast at Tiffany's at 208 Rodeo restaurant above the Tiffany store on Rodeo Drive. Beverly Hills was beautifully decorated with large Christmas trees and lights covering all the lamp posts along the streets of Wilshire and Rodeo. After eating a delicious breakfast of English muffins with poached eggs and smoked salmon, we continued to do some shopping before heading to the Beverly Hills Hotel for drinks and appetisers. My mum and I have always had a tradition of going out for either high tea or champagne on a special occasion and I thought this would be a great time to take her somewhere special. The interior was styled with gorgeous Christmas decorations and a beautiful fireplace just outside of the bar. The bar had a cosy atmosphere with large arm chairs and moonlighting.
For the next part of our LA adventures, we took a trip to Urth Caffé, where we had a delicious breakfast of organic tea and cream cheese bagels before heading in a cab to Disneyland in Anaheim. It doesn't matter how old you are Disneyland will always be a magical place, whether you are four or twenty four. After a lovely four days and showing my mum my apartment and my school, we headed to the airport on Tuesday afternoon to fly to San Francisco. Our original flight with southwest was at 4pm so we arrived extra early at 1.30pm to relax and have a glass of wine before our short flight. Our journey soon took a turn for the worst when our flight became delayed until 6.15pm. We were not happy about this, but didn't let it bother us and at least it gave us time to have an extra glass of wine. The day began to get worse when I found out that out flight had been delayed yet again to 7pm and then 8.15pm. After running around like a crazy person from gate to gate we found out that our flight had been completely cancelled and we had to rebook for a flight at 10pm, which was then delayed till 11pm. The airport was becoming more and more packed and by this time there was not even one spare chair to sit down. Ten hours later we finally boarded the plan with an interesting pilot named Frank Schmuk.
I am now currently relaxing in Novato with all my cousins, aunt, uncle and the doggies. It's been a bit of a mad house with everyone, but it's been the best part of my winter break so far. Now I am looking forward to the last few days here with new year before my mum returns to London and I return to LA for my second semester at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts.
