MOVING TO HOLLYWOOD!

Hey I’m Chantal Lopez-Dias and I live in Essex in the United Kingdom. I'm an aspiring actor and have decided to start this blog to document my journey and share all my experiences with all you lovely people. So a quick back track, I previously studied acting at Sylvia Young Theatre School and Italia Conti Academy and I am now studying a BA Honours in Drama and Applied Theatre at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. I absolutely love my course and have had some amazing opportunities such as going to India to facilitate drama workshops with children in the slums as well as teachers and students. I also had the opportunity to tour a devised piece of children’s theatre around Cornwall. I had originally chosen to steer my career in a different direction from straight acting as I thought I should have other skills behind me. Although I am having an amazing time, I have come to realise that performing is my biggest passion and I can’t see myself doing anything else. This is why I've been working hard on my audition speeches to gain a space at one of the foremost prestigious drama schools.

So… my hard work has finally paid off and I received my acceptance letter to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in the post last week. This time next year I will be jetting off to Hollywood to study acting for stage, film and television. It doesn't feel quite real yet. I've been dreaming of this moment since I was little and I've worked so hard to get to this place. I've sacrificed relationships and some aspects of my social life to focus intently on my dream, so this moment is extremely rewarding and important to me. I have to admit I can sometimes be quite a negative person and find it hard to get back up when I've been knocked down, however, throughout my acting career I have realised that life doesn't always work out the way we all expect or want it to and the only person that you can rely on to push you is yourself. I now believe that no matter how many times I fall down and fail I will always get back up, dust myself off, and continue to follow my dream until it becomes a reality. As an aspiring actor this is what this industry has taught me. People that allow the negatives to rule over the positives and give up every time it gets tough wont make it in this career. There needs to be perseverance and determination in order to become successful. I know some people that haven't managed to get into drama school or haven't gotten a few audition and have just given up. I believe that determination is key to make your dreams come true.

It does also help to have people around you who believe in you too. I have always had support from my family and friends but my mum has been the biggest inspiration in my life and career, she was never a pushy parent but she would also support and push me when I felt like giving up. My mum has always encouraged me to go to drama school and paid for all my extra dance and drama classes. I don't think I would have made it this far if I didn't have her by my side motivating me every step of the way.

Although I have accepted my place and I am still looking for sponsorship to help my dream become a reality. I have set up a page on youcaring.com in order to help me raise these funds. If you would like to donate please follow the link below. Thanks!!
